Client:
NorthShore is a leader in providing technical solution and consultancy to commercial real estate finance industry.
The company provides software products and services that automate the lending process and address
the inefficiencies in the industry. The product is a comprehensive solution to the requirements of any
commercial real estate lending environment. It is a proven vehicle for the origination of a high volume of
loans by a large, multiple-location enterprise. Over $10 billion worth of commercial mortgages have
been originated through the system
The Challenge:
NorthShore had a windows based and a web based version of the commercial mortgage origination,
underwriting, closing and securitization system. Some of the recently added features and modules
were present only in the window-based system. The client was interested to
a. Migrate parts of the existing version of the web application, mainly the Entity
Maintenance module developed in (Active Server Pages, Visual Basic, SQL) to .NET (dot net) architecture using
(ASP .Net, VB.NET and SQL).
b. Wanted to optimize the "Cash Flow Analysis" module.
Thus, the scope of the project included:
• The study of the existing product and capturing of business requirements.
• The migration of the functionality on one-to-one basis to .NET framework
The Solution:
The first step was to identify the different components of the Entity
Maintenance module and then reverse engineer the application to
derive the high-level functional model and database design. The
module was then redesigned
by MachroTech's
.net consultants using the .net architecture using
Microsoft SQL server as data store, .NET code behind for business logic
and ASPX pages for presentation layer. The ASP and ASP.NET portions
of the web site were then integrated to work as one application.
The Cash Flow module was optimized using
thorough code research, reverse engineering and performance analysis.
The following areas were optimized to achieve over 10 times reduction
in response time of mission critical web sections:
- SQL data storage
- Indexes and queries
- DLL logic and interfaces
- Memory operations and usage within ASP page
- JavaScript performance
- ActiveX structure and logic
Results:
Over 10 times (from 5-10 Minutes to 30 seconds) reduction in response time was achieved
of mission critical web sections. The enhancements have made the system state-of-the-art.
It caters to the organizational need for timely access & and it now addresses all business
issues reliably and fast.
Technologies and tools used:
Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
MS SQL Server 2000
